Chapter 01:Why I Joined Nissan

Inspired by Nissan's Vision
for Connected Cars

In my previous role at a Japanese automaker, I was responsible for creating requirements for in-vehicle navigation systems, designing layouts for integration into vehicles, and conducting operation tests. Back then, my navigation system was quite simple—offering basic route guidance, radio, and Bluetooth pairing with smartphones. However, I learned that other manufacturers were beginning to develop IVI systems with connected functions, and I started seeking opportunities to be involved in developing more advanced navigation systems.

While exploring job options at several automakers, I was particularly drawn to Nissan's vision for a future society shaped by connected cars. Their goals—such as connecting and operating vehicles within the alliance, and creating environments where EV charging infrastructure can be used efficiently—resonated deeply with me. I decided to join Nissan with the hope of contributing to society through innovative mobility solutions.

Chapter 02:My Role and Responsibilities

Creating New Connected Services
from the Planning Stage

Currently, I am part of the R&D Division, working on both BtoB and BtoC connected services. My role involves defining service requirements that satisfy customer needs and designing the components that make up the system. For example, I am responsible for services like the 'Pre-ride Air Conditioner,' which allows users to activate the car’s climate control via a smartphone app, and 'Car Alarm Notification,' which alerts the owner if a door is forcibly opened. These services have already been launched.

Recently, we’ve been developing a variety of new services. While most ideas originate from specialized planning groups, we in the design department are increasingly proposing our own concepts. Just recently, a new connected service I proposed was adopted, and development has now begun.

Chapter 03:Career Growth

Proposing Ideas Beyond Department Boundaries
While Deepening Expertise

Nissan, being larger than my previous employer, a traditional automaker, has highly specialized divisions. I feel that many professionals possess deep expertise in their respective fields. However, this does not mean the scope of work is limited. For example, the relationship between the design and planning departments illustrates this well. Although each has defined responsibilities, the environment encourages us to propose ideas beyond departmental boundaries and collaborate across functions. As a result, I now have more discretion in my work than I did before.

Additionally, Nissan’s R&D department is characterized by a diverse mix of talent—not only automotive industry veterans like myself but also professionals from IT companies and telecommunications carriers. We leverage our varied backgrounds and expertise to create better products. The opportunity to collaborate with colleagues from different industries and perspectives is one of the most attractive aspects of working at Nissan.

Chapter 04:My Future Aspirations

Becoming a Cross-Functional Engineer
Who Oversees Planning and Design

My immediate goal is to launch the connected services currently under development. Alongside that, I want to develop services that utilize the wide array of driving data we gather, which means I also plan to learn more about data analytics. Ultimately, I aspire to be an engineer who can oversee both planning and design comprehensively, working across departments and with diverse teams.

At Nissan, a global company, English skills are essential even for daily tasks. I didn’t speak English fluently from the start, but talking daily with engineers from different countries has naturally improved my language skills. The joy of creating products and services that transcend borders is unparalleled. For those who want to bring their work to the global stage or pursue a work style that isn’t confined to specific departments or areas of expertise, Nissan offers an excellent environment.
